Is The Ford F-150 A Death Trap?

By | Blog

My friends, my homies, my internet family, it’s me once again, your pal Gatlin from Carphonix Car Audio, THE place to be for anyone who wants a killer car electronics upgrade to their ride.

What am I talking about today?

Well, it’s a different video than usual. We’re not talking about stereos, or remote starters, or alarms, none of that stuff.

We’re talking about doors.

No, not installing any cool new doohickey in your door. I’m talking about the regular, plain old, everyday job a door is supposed to do.

What does a door do?

That’s not a trick question – it opens and closes.

That’s how it works on most cars, trucks, houses, stores, airplanes, and anywhere else with walls you want to walk in and out of.

When you close a door, it’s supposed to stay closed. You rely on it working properly when you’re going to bed at night, when you’re getting to your shop in the morning, and most importantly, when you’re traveling at 100 kilometres per hour down the highway.

I don’t know when the first door was invented, but I bet they’ve been around for a while.

I guess Ford didn’t get the memo though, since the Ford F-150’s doors don’t close.

Yeah, I’m serious. Take a look at the video below.

Unbelievable, huh?

This happened with their 2016 model too, which is why they upgraded me to a 2018 truck, but it looks like they still haven’t figured it out.

If you’ve got a Ford F-150, give Ford a shout. We can’t help you there.

But if you’ve got a car electronics project you’re hoping to get started, that’s where we shine.

Whether you’re looking for an audio upgrade, a remote starter, an alarm, custom lights, heated seats, or you’ve got a custom project in mind, we’ve got your back.

From cars to trucks to boats to motorcycles, if it’s got wheels we can upgrade it.

Rust Control Modules Are A Waste Of Money. Here's Why | Carphonix car audio video alarms electronics accessories remote starters installation repair London Ontario

What’s happening everyone, we’re back with another episode with your friendly faces at CarPhonix Car Audio, your one-stop source for everything to do with car electronics.

Does it have to do with your car? Does it have to do with the wires in your car? If the answer is yes, we’ve gotcha covered.

And I know all y’all like to follow some of the cool and unusual mods we’ve done, like that 1991 Mazda Autozam overhaul, or the gorgeous 1969 Beaumont classic stereo upgrade we did. Good times.

But it’s not all fun and games. Today I want to talk to you about something that’s a big topic in this industry – electronics rust control modules.

It’s a big topic in the car world, and it’s especially a big deal at the dealership you’re going to when you decide to buy a new car.

Yeah, a lot of people are talking about them.

And you can probably tell by the title of this article that I’m not a big fan.

What Is A Rust Control Module

So the idea behind a rust control module is, obviously, to control rust. What it does is send a low frequency electrical charge through your car’s body which is supposed to prevent rust from forming.

The technology behind these things is adapted from what they use on oil tankers, and it actually works for those. But for your car, it’s not going to make one lick of difference.

Why not?

Watch the video below to find out.

Yeah I know this blog wasn’t as fun as they usually are, but it’s a big deal and it’s something you deserve to know about when you’re making your purchasing decisions.

Speaking of which, are you thinking of upgrading your car electronics? Maybe you want a killer new sound system, or a remote starter, or maybe you want a video system in the back to keep your kids quiet on a long trip.

Whatever it is you’re looking for, we’ve got you covered. Contact us using the information below.

Important Things To Know About Your Remote Starter | Carphonix car audio video alarms electronics accessories remote starters installation repair London Ontario

Hey hey hey what is good my internet pals, it’s Gatlin here from CarPhonix, THE place to be for EVERYTHING related to car electronics.

And today, I’ve got a simple question for ya.

What’s a remote starter?

It may seem pretty obvious, right?

I mean, it’s that thing you attach to your keychain where you press the button and your car goes vroom and you don’t have to get your tushie all chilly in the winter, right?

But there’s a bit more to it than that.

People come in and ask me all sorts of questions about remote starters. How is it installed? Why is it important to call around and ask for pricing?

But here’s the trick – pricing isn’t the only thing you need to worry about.

It’s something you’re going to think about, obviously, but here in good old London Ontario, everyone is pretty competitive when it comes to pricing. You might save five or ten bucks here or there, but that shouldn’t make much of a difference to most people.

So yeah, the question you should be asking isn’t “where can I get the cheapest deal?”

I mean look, your car is the second-biggest investment most people end up making in their life, and it’s a good idea to make sure you take care of that investment, right?

So the question you should be asking is this:

Is the person installing your remote starter a certified technician?

Here in Ontario, in order to do the work we do here, you need to have a certification called a 310k certification – Automotive Electronic Accessory Technician.

I got me one of those 310k certifications. And I’ll even prove it! Click here, and go ahead and type in my name, and you’ll see I’m licensed to do this type of work.

But why should you care whether or not your technician is certified?

Watch the video below to find out.

Who’s got two thumbs and is a certified 310k technician?

Winter Is Here! Time To Get A Car Remote Started Installed | Carphonix car audio video alarms electronics accessories remote starters installation repair London Ontario

Yep, it’s that time of year boys and girls.

It’s cold.

I’m back again, your old pal Gatlin from Carphonix Car Audio, here to remind you that even though we’ve got car audio right there in the name, we do a heck of a lot more than just that.

In fact, two of our biggest sellers are car alarms and, this time of year at least, car remote starter installations.

That’s probably not surprising, since in case you all forgot we live in Canada, and here in Canada we’ve got this little thing called winter, and winter is stupidly cold.

And on cold winter mornings, there’s nothing nicer than going from your nice warm home to your nice warm car.

You can’t do that manually, since you have to go out and start your car, then come back inside, wait a few minutes and go back out – seems to defeat the purpose, right?

But a remote starter is about more than just that.

Here are some of the top benefits of having a remote car starter

1. It Runs Your Defroster

Are you sick of having to scrape your windshield off?

Yeah it’s exhausting and annoying, right?

With a remote car starter, you can kiss that goodbye!

It’ll melt off the ice and snow on your windshield, so when you get in you’ll see a nice clean windshield.

2. It Monitors Your Car’s Movements

Most of the remote starters we install come with GPS tracking built in, so in case someone decides your car would be better off if it was their car instead, you can figure out exactly where they take it.

3. It Can Save You Gas

That might sound strange, since it seems like if anything a car sitting idle in your driveway is wasting gas.

But when you get into your car on a cold day and just take off, your engine has to work overtime, which often leads to more gas used.

Letting your engine warm up for a few minutes can help you reduce your gas mileage by letting your engine run warm instead of cold.

And many mechanics agree doing this can extend the life of your engine as well.

Carphonix Remote Starter Installation

These are just a few of the benefits of a remote car starter, but honestly, the most convincing thing should be for you to just peep out the window and see those piles of snow on the ground.

A remote starter installation is a simple, seamless process.

Take a look at the video below to see one of our finished products.

Aaaaanywho, here’s what’s up this week – we’re talking batteries.

Today we’re working on a Jeep, and this guy’s got an issue.

I mean, other than the crappy aftermarket stereo he had installed, his car is just dying all the time.

Every time he gets up in the morning and starts the car, he finds it dead.

Obviously that’s super annoying, so we’re going to check it out.

In case you missed it, go take a look – it’s the blog post before this one.

We only got so far, since it’s a hell of a job installing the audio in this thing, and we’re doing it in between customer jobs since no one is paying us to do this one!

Plus we’re doing some body work to it as well to get rid of the rust and other ugly bits.

This is part 2 of the van work.

One of the biggest differences you’re gonna see here is the door well.

Who knew your pal Gatlin was a man of so many talents?

There’s a ton of custom work in this thing, since hey, how many people want a killer stereo in their shop van?

Hey, we’re back once again with another glimpse into my little slice of paradise.

It’s Gatlin, your pal from Carphonix Car Audio.

Though we might need to start calling ourselves experts in van audio installations, but somehow I don’t think that’s quite as catchy, ya know?

Why? Well, today I wanted to show you the stereo we’re installing into our shop van.

You remember the SLAM VAN right?

We did a video on that a few months back.

In case you missed it, it’s right here.

The goal? Make the system BUMP.

I mean, you’re not going to see a wall of 12s or 15s lined up.

This is a work van, not an earthquake machine.

But if I show up with a car audio system that sounds like crap, people are going to start wondering.

And besides, I like this stuff.

So what’ll you get today?

You’ll see the beginning of the van’s audio install, me addressing the concerns of my haters (as usual), and a bunch more.

You’ll just have to watch the video to find out, huh?

Where am I going?

It’s an undisclosed location.

Yep, a huge mystery – you’ll never know, unless you’re me.

And you’re not me, and you never will be.

Hah!

Anyway, this was a very cool opportunity, because we were working on a 2005 Mustang Saleen Coupe.

This was awesome not only because it’s a Mustang, but I read somewhere that this is one of only like 12 in all of North America, and this guy happens to have one.

So what are we doing?

Well, there was an older Kenwood head unit that he wanted to swap out for something nicer, so we’re swapping it for another Kenwood – a DMX 9905s.

So you’ll see my process for that.

It was nice of the owner to let us get some footage of this bad boy – it’s not every day you get an opportunity like this.

Check it out in the video below.

You might have heard of the recent trend of ASMR – autonomous sensory meridian response.

It’s a big fancy word for a trend that people are really into lately on YouTube.

It’s basically just soothing, relaxing sights and sounds that some people refer to as a “brain massage”.
